An excellent home remedy for hair fall-Bringraj oil

Bringraj or Eclipta alba is also known as False daisy.
It is known as karisalankanni in Tamil,guntagalagara in Telugu,Ajagara in Kannada .

Method of preparation of the oil:
Wash and pat dry the leaves of Bringraj well and extract the juice.Mix equal quantities of sesame seed oil to the juice and heat this on a low flame till only the oil remains.Filter and store.Use this instead of hair oil.The hair fall reduces.

There are many factors for male balding. Age, genes , stress, using harsh chemicals on the scalp and hair , pollution , some medications and the harsh sunlight are some of the most common causes.



This is a simple tip suggested by Panditha Elchuri.

Rubbing a little Radish juice * on the scalp where the hair is thinning out helps the hair to regrow.The juice must be massaged gently on the scalp in the nights before sleeping.It should be stopped for 2-3 days if the person experiences any burning sensation or a rash.coconut oil must be massaged instead.The treatment must be continued again with the radish juice.

For long and lustrous hair

30 gm of Daikon Radish * pieces are eaten with 3 pinches of peppercorn * powder in the evenings when the stomach is not too full.This can be done for a month.
This ensures good hair growth.

A note on Soapnuts

Soap nuts * are Soap berries of small trees which have substances called saponins in them which help them to act as a very safe detergents.They can be used to clean the hair and laundry and gold ornaments.They are very delicate on the clothes and does not leave any poisonous residues like the conventional detergents.
  1. Crushed Soap nuts are boiled in 2 glasses of water and the mixture is filtered and can be used as a completely environmentally friendly and gentle detergent to wash dishes,colored clothes and gold ornaments .They come out clean and shining after a wash.
  2. When it is used as a shampoo it prevents dandruff and promotes hair growth.
  3. There are generally 2 main varieties in India -the South Indian Sapindus trifoliatus and the North Indian Sapindus mukorossi.The north Indian variety is used more in Ayurveda.It is bigger and looks more fleshy and orange when trifoliatus is blacker and smaller.
  4. Care must be taken to see that the juice must not fall into the eyes which can cause irritation.
  5. Soapnuts should not be taken internally.It has mild abortifacient properties.Which means that pregnant ladies should not consume soap nuts in any form.
*Soap nuts are called kunkudikaya in Telugu,Rita in Hindi,Punalai in Tamil,Amtalakaayi in kannada,Hristah in Sanskrit.

Curd and pepper for strong hair

Mix the powder of 10 peppercorns (kalamirch ,miriyalu,Milagu) in a small cup of curd.
Rub this on the scalp and leave for 5-10 minutes.Wash off hair with an ayurvedic shampoo.This strengthens the hair and prevents hair fall.
This can be done once or twice a week till the hair becomes lustrous and beautiful.

Ber for healthy hair...


The genus 'Ziziphus' has around 40 species of plants. Ziziphus mauritiana is very common and well known as - Ber in Hindi ,Regi chettu in Telugu , Yezhandha palam in Tamil ,Elandha in Malayalam and Indian jujubee in English .



The wild variety is extremely common in India and grows along roadsides.They have oval leaves and the stems have hook like spines.

The leaves of the Ber tree are carefully plucked with a glove and dried and powdered.The powder should be boiled in water.Washing the hair with this decoction clears dandruff, prevents hair fall and makes the hair strong and healthy

Soapnuts cure for "loss of hair in small patches " in Ayurveda

Sometimes hair falls off or thins out in a small patch on the scalp or on the moustache for men.This is also known as Alopecia.It is known as "Penu Korukudu " in Telugu.
This particular remedy was recommended by Panditha Elchuri:

Rub a soap nut on a rough stone with salt water and collect the thin paste and rub it on the hair loss patch twice or thrice a day.The salt used must be sea salt.
Hair growth starts in 3 days after this treatment.

A good home remedy for Dandruff with khus khus and milk

This particular recipe is as told by Dr.Elchuri.
Roast Khus khus seeds (for more info and picture refer the previous post) and soak them in warm milk for a few hours.Then grind the seeds to a paste and apply on the scalp.Leave it on for around half an hour and wash off with a natural herbal shampoo

A good cure for dandruff

Wash a handful of Neem leaves and let them and boil with 1 glass of water.Let the water reduce in volume.Cool and filter .Massage the scalp and hair with this concentrate and wait for half an hour before shampooing.
This is a sure way of eliminating dandruff

Hibiscus flower oil for Dandruff

A simple and effective way for banishing dandruff is by applying Shoe flower* oil .This recipe is as mentioned by Panditha Elchuri garu as "Japa Pushpa Thailam".
Grind or pound many red single layered hibiscus flowers and extract the juice from them.Take equal quantities of sesame seed oil,mix it with the juice and heat it over very small flame till all the juice of the flower evaporates and only the oil remains.
Apply the slightly warmed oil regularly before sleeping.This will ensure good hair growth and also cure even the most stubborn dandruff problem.

* Shoe flower is also known as china rose,Mandharam in Telugu,Chembaritthi in Tamil ,Gurhal in Hindi and Japa Pushpam in Sanskrit

Dandruff

Dandruff is a common scalp disorder with number of possible causes ranging from stress to improper hair care. The good news is that ayurveda provides effective and long term treatment for dandruff. There are various ayurvedic remedies to cure dandruff.

Ayurvedic Products or Herbal Products for Dandruff

Ayurvedic treatment for dandruff is gentle on hair but highly effective to route out the dandruff. Since ayurvedic medicines and products for dandruff are made up of natural ingredients they are free from any kind of side effect.
  • Hair Oil: Ayurvedic hair oil is the best way to treat dandruff and get healthy hair. It is made up of coconut oil, neem and kapoor. The anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of neem make this oil effective to cure dandruff.
  • Hair tonic powder: Ingredients of hair tonic powder include henna, sweet flag, bringaraj, rosary pea cashmere tree, hirda, behada, amalaki, magic nut and mandor. All the ingredients of hair tonic powder makes hair healthy, strong and fight bacteria in most effective way.
  • Shampoos: Ayurvedic shampoos contain shikakai and ritha. Both of these ayurvedic herbs are well known for their treating and cleansing properties. Some of these shampoos also contain neem to cure dandruff.
  • Conditioners: Ayurvedic conditioners contain extracts of fenugreek seeds, orange and lemon.

  • Ayurvedic Remedies for Dandruff
    • Massage you hair with warm coconut or castor oil twice a week.
    • Fenugreek seeds are very effective for overall hair care, especially to prevent dandruff. Soak fenugreek seeds overnight and grind them to fine paste. Now apply the paste on your hair for half an hour and then wash with mild shampoo.
    • Neem is another effective herb to treat dandruff. Boil neem leaves in water and use this water to wash your hair.
    • Tea tree oil is effective against dandruff. Mix one teaspoon of tea tree oil in a cup of hot water and massage your hair with this. After half an hour rinse your hair with lemon water followed by plain water.
    • Make paste of tulsi leaves and amla. Apply this paste on your scalp and massage gently. Leave for about one hour and then wash.
    • Massage your scalp with equal quantity of vinegar and lime juice. Rinse with a mild shampoo.
    • Massage aloe vera gel on your scalp, leave for fifteen minutes and the wash with mild shampoo.

      For excess hair fall and dandruff -a 2 in 1 remedy

      Mix

      • Curd
      • Lemon juice
      • onion juice
      • flared up Borax powder(called Suhaga powder in Hindi)
      Massage this mixture well-leave on for 1 hr and wash off hair .This is extremely good for hair fall and other skin problems on the scalp and dandruff

       




for babies

cold & cough:
For Infants:1/2 tsp of ginger juice,1/2 tsp of honey mix it & feed it daily 3-4 times.
For 3-6 months babies: 4 drops of ginger juice & 4 drops of honey mix in to warm water (1tsp) feed it daily 3 times.
For 3-24 months & kids:
3-6 months: 4 drops of tulasi leaf juice & 4 drops of honey mix this and feed it daily 2-3 times
24-kids: 1/2tsp of tulasi leaf juice & 1/2tsp of honey mix this and feed it daily 3-4 times

for babeis


For babies to sleep well

Mix 5 drops of onion juice and 5 drops of honey and feed it before the child sleeps-This will ensure a restful sleep in children.
(It is not recommended to try this for children below 1 year of age)

If a baby gets up in the night and cries loudly and unable to sleep again,then placing a piece of Alum under the pillow of the baby helps.

(Care must be taken to see that the child does not eat it or the piece is not sharp.)
